This is mostly posted for my own future reference. Nevertheless, enjoy! Hope to see you … somewhere out there (as Feivel Mousekowitz once sang).
Not sure which if any of these events I will attend, but I am resolved to make it the best live music summer ever for me personally.
I find lately that I really need the emotional/spiritual pick-me-up of seeing thoughtful, talented people doing what they do best. Plus I like to dance (despite sucking at it, probably), and these shows/fests are also just great ways to meet cool people. Beats the heck out of staying in every weekend and watching tv reruns. Not always as costly as you think, either.
Note that I’m already registered and paid for the full 4-day Wild Goose Festival (featuring T-Bone Burnett and Michelle Shocked… festival mott0: Music. Art. Faith. Justice… pick any order you prefer…). That one is slated for June 23-26 in a gorgeous spot just a bit south of Durham, NC. All the cool kids will be there. So come on down to North Carolina next month! [More on this important, and first-ever, “Emerging Church” festival, coming up here in another post later this week…]
Sorry about the randomness below of dates and musical genres… I was just cutting and pasting some of the venues and dates for my favored artists and styles (Americana/folk, Chicago-roots, power-pop, blues, singer-songwriter, world music).
Any chance I’ll see some of y’all at any of these mostly regional Midwest events? Note especially the first one on the list, as my personal pals in Modern Conversation’s second date –Aug. 20– is my birthday, SOOOO… I may be cooking up a big lakefront cafe partay, with great music as the backdrop/centerpiece.
Or does anyone wanna recommend something below that you’ve been to in the past, or something else I have missed? – MaRk
